i6 Report
Posted by NOPAIN on 15/11/2000.When I got to i6 I was shocked by the sheer size of it, Newbury Racecourse was certainly an ideal place for the UK's biggest ever LAN party which went on for a whole 72 hours. Gamers started turning up at 9pm and by 12 O'clock the place was pumping, but night is when the real games began. It all started when the clans started to turn up, everyone got together and started to drink and be merry when the boat race came. Yes THE boat race: a team of MPUK staff got together to try and down more pints then the gaming team. And boy did we kick arse. A few hours later when the younger members of the TFC community started to find a pitch for the night, and l337 TFCers got on the servers spamming comenced. At about 4am people started to get off the servers and nod off but there was a group of us still on a server which had been playing 2Fort for hours on end spamming the hell out of each other running round the map shouting "PYROS RULE" and "BURN BITCH BURN". Soon we all got bored and decided to call it a day as well all had to be up in the morning for the tournaments to commence.
At 9am half of i6 and I was woken up by a "Ding Dong" which came over the main speakers to say that the tourneys were going ahead and that there was going to be a 1 min shutdown of the network at 11 for the people that fell in the wars years ago. So up we all got and straight on to the servers for another owning! I started my own server and everyone got on I turned grav off and we was floating round the server till the network went down. Yes I had been on the server for 2 hours without knowing. After that the TFC tourney started. Each clan got a minimum of 3 matches and if you did well in them you went on to the semi finals. In all I think there were about 6 clans that entered with BIA and 848 leading the way. BIA started well and won all their games and got through to the semis with ease. 848 just scraped through but played well all day. At 8 O'clock the tourney stopped but the games carried on again for another late night ownage. In the evening we all had pizzas from dominos in Newbury where all i6 people got a buy one get one free offer on a pizza of their choice, despite waiting up to 2 hours for the pizza and when they final came they were cold it was good and I ended up given my free one away to someone playing Tribes.
The morning of the last day came and the tourney started back up again. 848 had HMPC and BIA had KASAP, both great games and the 848 vs. HMPC was class. However there was a bit of tension between BIA and KASAP as BIA were accused of cheating which was found not to be true. So the final had been decided 848 vs. BIA what a cracker. At 2:30pm the final started with BIA pinching an early cap with a scout. After this BIA's defence seemed tight and BIA went 70-20 up. The game was a full hour of 2Fort and was very demanding on both teams. Towards the end BIA's defence got weaker and weaker until the final score was 100-90. Then it was all over, 848 were looking the stronger team at the end however BIA was the better clan on the day. Well-played BIA
So was it worth it? Of course! Despite having to use anti virus ever 5 mins cause the FTP was full of bugs and not winning in the raffle over all it was class. I hope to see you all at the up coming events and I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. Remember TFC is a fun game and these are fun events so lets hope MPUK keep up the good work.
The next MPUK LAN party is on the weekend of the 30th of March 2001. Check www.multiplay.co.uk for more details.
